Surfrider's water quality monitoring program provides critical water quality information to protect public health. We use this program to raise awareness of local pollution problems and to bring communities together to implement solutions.
Laru Beya 5th Annual Totally Ghoul Halloween Surf Contest

The Laru Beya Collective and Friends are thrilled to host our 5th Annual Totally Ghoul Halloween Surf and Costume Contest on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 11 AM to 4 PM. This much-anticipated event brings the Rockaway community together to showcase their spookiest costumes, both on land and in the water, while catching some wicked waves. As the only event of its kind in NYC, it’s surfing with a haunting twist! Expect tricks, treats, and prizes awarded to our costume contest winners.

Hurricane Sandy Anniversary Cleanup and Planting
Join the New York City Chapter and RISE (https://www.riserockaway.org/rise/) for a community dune planting and cleanup in the Rockaways!
For the 12th anniversary of Sandy, we're partnering with RISE to care for our shoreline and create a natural protective barrier for the community. Sandy taught us that the vegetation and dunes off our shores serve as a buffer to the homes in the area.

Spend the first part of your Saturday at Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th. It is the third season for the only outdoor farmers market on the Rockaway peninsula. Mariachi Real de Mexico will be the musical performer on Opening Day.
The 2024 season takes place (rain or shine!) every Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., June 15 to October 12, and has live music, food sampling, and fun activities. The mission of Rockaway Market Street @ Beach 60th is to support community farmers and vendors with opportunities to sell their vegetables, fruits, homemade food products, baked goods, and locally made crafts.

Movie night at Arverne Cinema with Surfrider NYC
Join the crew of Surfrider NYC in celebrating World Ocean Day! They'll be partnering with the Arverne Cinema to screen Tarpon, a restored film from the early 70s.
The film's message about catch-and-release highlights the increasing pressure on our ocean and fish at the time by sportsmen, tourists, and boaters.
They'll have campaign and program updates before the movie and there will be food and drinks!
