As the water temperature continues to warm up, many of you may be wondering what that means when it comes to choosing proper surf attire. Never fear, The Locals are here to answer all your questions!

The water temperature in Rockaway is currently averaging around 69 degrees Fahrenheit or about 20 degrees Celsius. This means that it's time to ditch the thick suits and booties and slip into something a little more comfortable!

OPTION 1:  LIGHT WEIGHT WETSUIT

If you tend to get cold easily while in the water or if you plain to be out for long surf sesh, a light weight wet suit could be the right choice for you. You can also try this in a short sleeve version to keep warm while free up those arms for better mobility in the water. But if the air temperature is fairly hot, you might want to consider other options.

OPTION 2: SHORTY WETSUIT

A shorty wetsuit, or sometimes called a spring suit, is the perfect choice for the early summer in Rockaway. Shorty wetsuits have a lower thickness and short legs and sleeves which gives you better mobility in the water. With a shorty you'll be not too hot, not too cold, but just right.

OPTION 3: WETSUIT TOP

Another good option for this time of year is a neoprene top. This is a great choice especially if the air temperature is hot and humid. A neoprene top will keep your core warm while in the water and also protect you from the sun's harsh rays.

OPTION 4: RASH GUARD

If you aren't phased by semi-cold water a simple rash guard could be a good choice for you. Unconstrained by neoprene your body will have great mobility and like a neoprene top a rash guard can protect you from getting sun burnt while out in the water.

OR IF YOU ARE REALLY BRAVE...

You could do no wetsuit or rash guard at all!
